Acceptance

Acceptance is something most BBW’s fight for every day. That includes acceptance from the world at large, so to speak, and acceptance of oneself. Many BBW’s are perfectly happy the way they are and that seems to come naturally to them. Many of us have to fight for it, though, and it can be a true battle.

It’s kind of a vicious circle – The world tells us we are too big, unhealthy, unnatractive, second-rate, not worthy and, ironically, at times just plain invisible. So at home we prepare to go out in the world, look in the mirror, and see an unnatractive, second-rate, “too big” person. Many of us hide under big sweatshirts or big, ugly sweaters, not bothering with make-up or fixing up at all – because we’re not worthy anyway.

So we go out in the world and perpetuate this misconception further and receive the kind of negative attention that only keeps the vicious circle turning. Additionally, we often resolve to starve ourselves, push exercise to an unhealthy degree, or sometimes just plain hide at home and avoid the negative attention altogether.

Whatever the cause of vicious circle, there is a way to put a halt to it. You can decide that you will be good to yourself and dress attractively according to your tastes, be neat in appearance, go out whenever and wherever you want to (because yes, you DO belong there), and try to maintain your health to the best degree you can without hurting yourself with starvation, over-exertion or negative tapes playing in your head.

Doing these things once will not suddenly change “everything.” But making a habit of these things will build self-esteem, which will in turn increase confidence, which will in turn give you the strength to go and do any and all things you want to do without fear of judgement. The judgement will still occasionally be there, but you know you are being the best person you can be. And chances are, the judgements will be rare, and the confidence you exude will attract others to you more often than not.
